I have outlined below some of the basic gear you are going to need to bring on my hunts. Most people bring too much. You are better to bring less but good quality gear.
Gear List for Sika or Red Stag Hunts
(excluding Wilderness Block)
Accommodation is in a cabin we can drive to. Cabins are not the Hilton but very comfortable warm and dry, power hot shower, flush toilets etc (no shower flush toilets at Johns Block)
- Sleeping bag
- Day bag for use while hunting
- Binoculars 8x or 10x are best as we spend most of our time glassing
- Small still camera
- Flash light
- Thermal underwear
- Good hiking boots.
- 4 pairs of socks
- 3 pairs of underwear
- 1 change of long pants
- 4 tops
- 2 polarfleece tops
- 1 warm jacket
- Rain jacket
- 1 x pair of gloves
- Woolen hat
- Tooth brush
- Camp shoes
- Towel for showering
Gear List for the Wilderness Block
Max weight per person 135kgs including your own weight.
Accommodation is in a back country cabin but does have a flush toilet and shower.
No large back pack is required. A lighter day bag for your gear works fine. The helicopter drops us 30 yards from the hut.
